Natural progesterone is needed in hormone replacement therapy for menopausal women to help balance estrogen levels (hormonal imbalance can result in mood swings, hot flashes, osteoporosis, etc.). Progesterone levels may drop to near zero in some women before and during menopause since our bodies do not make this hormone. Synthetic progesterone (progestins) does not perform the same functions in the body and may even lower your progesterone levels so it is imperative that progesterone be used in its natural form. Progesterone is easily absorbed through the skin and into the blood. It stimulates bone building and helps protect against osteoporosis.

What is HRT?
HRT is an abbreviation for Hormone Replacement Therapy. Several years ago it became popular for doctors to prescribe the hormone estrogen for women with menopausal symptoms. They thought they were replacing hormones that they lost with the advent of menopause. Contemporary physicians now know that estrogen is not the hormone that needs to be replaced...it is progesterone! When synthetic estrogen is given it actually aggravates the symptoms all the more. These synthetic products were later formulated to include synthetic progestins to offset some of the bad effects of estrogen dominance. This vicious cycle is just now beginning to be understood with the advent of natural progesterone.
Estrogen levels drop 40%-60% at menopause which is just enough to stop our menstrual cycle. Dominance of this hormone is known to contribute to osteoporosis, heart disease and cancer of the breast, ovary and uterus. Around the age of 35 or even sooner, your progesterone level starts to drop due to environment, diet, water, etc.
